Himanta Biswa Sarma lauds Assam Police for arresting two ISIS leaders in Dhubri, busting terror module

Guwahati, 21st March: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the successful operation conducted by the Assam Police, resulting in the arrest of two top-ranking ISIS leaders in Dhubri on March 20. Sarma reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to combating fundamentalism and terrorism, emphasizing the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this endeavor. He expressed gratitude to the Assam Police for their vigilance and swift action.

The apprehension of the ISIS leaders, Haris Farooqi and Anurag Singh, came following credible intelligence indicating their presence in a neighboring country and their intention to infiltrate the Indian border for sabotage activities. The Special Task Force (STF) team, led by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS, IGP(STF), and Kalyan Kumar Pathak, APS, Addl SP, STF, successfully intercepted the accused in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri on the morning of March 20, shortly after their illegal entry across the international border.

Haris Farooqi, identified as the head of ISIS in India, and his associate Anurag Singh were apprehended by the STF team. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been actively seeking both individuals in connection with various terror-related activities.
