Assam: Political Dynamics Shift in Samaguri as Congress Supporters Defect to BJP
Guwahati, 23rd March: As the Lok Sabha elections draw nearer, significant political transformations are unfolding in Samaguri, symbolized by the crumbling stronghold of Rakibul Hussain and the Congress party. In a remarkable event at Barmat, approximately 300 Congress workers and supporters crossed party lines to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a ceremony overseen by Suresh Bora, the BJP’s anticipated candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat.
The absence of MP Pradyut Bordoloi, the Congress candidate, from the eastern region of Chamguri since his candidacy declaration has raised eyebrows, especially in light of the disinterest exhibited by former colleague turned rival Suresh Bora and Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain from the Samaguri assembly constituency. This perceived lack of engagement appears to have driven minority communities towards the BJP, abandoning their traditional allegiance to the Congress.
Suresh Bora attributes this shift in support to the BJP’s perceived commitment to development initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi and Assam’s Minister of Finance and Health, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The imminent Lok Sabha elections have heightened political activities in Samaguri, with a noticeable realignment of political loyalties marked by the defection of 300 Congress workers and supporters to the BJP. Suresh Bora’s growing influence in the region, coupled with MP Pradyut Bordoloi’s absence and Rakibul Hussain’s disengagement, poses challenges for the Congress candidate.
The minority community’s inclination towards the BJP signals a significant shift in the political landscape, potentially impacting the election outcome. Suresh Bora’s narrative of development under BJP leadership resonates with constituents, highlighting the evolving dynamics in Samaguri’s political arena.
