Manipur: Actor Maheshwar Thounaojam and Congress candidate Bimol Akoijam files nomination for Inner Lok Sabha seat

Northeast Desk, 27th March: Actor turned politician Maheshwar Thounaojam, representing the Republican Party of India-Athawale (RPI-A), and Congress candidate Dr. Bimol Akoijam have officially filed their nominations for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election in the inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.

Thounaojam submitted his nomination papers at the Imphal West DC Complex, highlighting the urgency to address the ongoing crises in Manipur. As the national secretary of RPI-A, he stressed the importance of understanding the inner workings of the government to bring about positive change. Thounaojam emphasized the need to prioritize resolving the current crisis before initiating further developmental steps, citing Manipur’s prolonged unrest as a primary concern.

In response, Congress candidate Dr. Bimol Akoijam framed the election as a battle between two visions for Manipur’s future. Characterizing it as a conflict between those striving for the dignity and wellbeing of the state and those disregarding the integrity of Manipur, Akoijam highlighted the significance of protecting the state’s diversity and promoting a dignified life for its people.

Addressing concerns raised about small parties’ representation in parliament, Akoijam referenced former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s analogy, stating that in a parliamentary democracy, a government without opposition is akin to a fast-moving train without brakes. This underscores the importance of diverse voices and perspectives in ensuring accountability and balanced governance.
