Tamil Nadu MP A. Ganeshamurthi Dies Of Cardiac Arrest After Alleged Suicide Attempt

National Desk, 28th March: A. Ganeshamurthi, the Member of Parliament from Erode representing the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), tragically passed away on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Coimbatore after suffering a cardiac arrest. The 77-year-old leader had been hospitalized since March 24 after allegedly attempting suicide by consuming poisonous tablets.

Despite medical intervention, Ganeshamurthi succumbed to his condition while undergoing treatment at around 5 am on March 28. The Erode Town police, who had earlier registered a case of attempted suicide, are now altering it to a case of death by suicide, according to PTI.

Following his demise, the hospital authorities handed over his body to the police, who subsequently transported it to the Institute of Road Transport (IRT) Medical College Hospital for autopsy. After the post-mortem procedure, Ganeshamurthi’s remains will be taken to Kumaravalasu village for burial, as per PTI reports.

The sequence of events leading to Ganeshamurthi’s hospitalization began on March 24 when he experienced uneasiness and vomiting, prompting his family to admit him to a private hospital in Erode. Subsequent medical evaluations revealed that he had consumed pesticide, leading to his deteriorating condition.

Despite efforts to stabilize him, Ganeshamurthi’s condition worsened, necessitating his transfer to a private hospital in Coimbatore, where he received intensive care. His critical condition prompted visits from various political leaders, including MDMK leader Durai Vaiko and state ministers, who expressed concern and offered support.

Reports suggest that Ganeshamurthi’s alleged suicide attempt stemmed from his dissatisfaction after the party leadership denied him a ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A seasoned politician, Ganeshamurthi was elected on a DMK ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Erode, marking his contributions to Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
