Nagaland: High-Stakes ENPO-ENLU Meeting Underway in Tuensang
Northeast Desk, 28th March: A high-stakes assembly between the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) and Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) is currently underway in Tuensang, drawing significant representation from East Nagaland with 20 MLAs in attendance. This gathering, held amidst escalating concerns over the frontier territory status, seeks to address pressing issues facing the region, emphasizing unity, liberty, and the collective voice of the people.
Under the ENPO banner, this assembly marks a crucial juncture in Eastern Nagaland’s pursuit of representation and empowerment. Moderated by Reverend Achu, Executive Secretary of CBLT, the event commenced with a prayer for unity and guidance.
The agenda of the meeting is expansive, covering various topics essential to Eastern Nagaland’s interests. Notable highlights include a Presidential Address by R. Tsapikiu Sangtam, President of ENPO, agenda setting for focused discussions, adoption of public resolutions, and a closing prayer by Reverend Yimto, Pastor of YBC Tuensang.
The inclusivity of this meeting is noteworthy, with a wide spectrum of stakeholders invited to participate, including members of ENLU, former Presidents of ENPO, tribal organizations, frontal organizations, and federating units.
Earlier, on March 19, the ENPO and its frontal organizations took a significant step by suspending the restrictions of the ‘Public Emergency’ in the Eastern Nagaland region during a joint coordination meeting held at Tuensang Headquarters. This decision followed the Government of India’s failure to address the creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory despite previous assurances.
During the meeting, three resolutions were passed, including the affirmation of the February 23, 2024, Chenmoho village resolution, drafting a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, and scheduling another Public Meeting, to be attended by all 20 ENLU members, within a week’s time at Tuensang HQ.
