Manipur: Jiribam Residents Demand Swift Action Following Bomb Attack
Northeast Desk, 29th March: In response to the bomb attack at Durgapur Village in Jiribam district earlier today, residents of Jiribam have vehemently condemned the incident and demanded prompt action from authorities. They have issued a stern ultimatum, calling for the arrest of the culprits within 24 hours, failing which they threaten to initiate a total shutdown.
During a press conference held this morning, Dewan Elangbam, President of the Jiribam Development Organisation, expressed outrage over the suspected IED bomb attack that shook Lamtai Village. He highlighted the concerted efforts of various local organizations, including the Jiribam Apunba Khunai Chaokhat Lup and Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, in condemning the violence and maintaining peace in the region.
Elangbam emphasized that despite facing instances of provocation and alleged gun attacks since May 3, the people of Jiribam have prioritized peace and tranquility. However, the recent attack crossed a threshold, prompting their demand for swift action from the state government.
He asserted that the authorities must apprehend those responsible for the attack within the stipulated 24-hour timeframe. Failing to meet this demand, the organizations have jointly decided to enforce a 24-hour total shutdown from 6 am on March 30 to 6 am on March 31.
The ultimatum underscores the community’s determination to uphold peace and security in Jiribam while holding accountable those who seek to disrupt the region’s harmony.
