All India Professionals’ Congress President Gauravv Somani Resigns from Assam Congress

Guwahati, 30th March: In another significant setback to the Congress party in Assam, All India Professionals’ Congress President Gauravv Somani resigned from the primary membership of the party on March 30.

In a letter addressed to the President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Bhupen Borah, Somani expressed his decision, citing dissatisfaction with the current leadership within the Assam Congress.

Somani’s letter outlined his dedicated 24-year journey within the Congress party, starting from his humble beginnings in student politics with NSUI in 1999. He highlighted his tenure in the Youth Congress and his current roles as Secretary of State Congress, Spokesperson of the Congress party in Assam, and State President of All India Professionals’ Congress (AIPC) Assam unit.

Citing unsatisfactory leadership within the Assam Congress, Somani lamented the failure to effectively address pressing issues faced by the people of the state. He criticized the leadership’s inability to formulate and implement strategic solutions to tackle challenges, noting that voices and concerns often went unheard.

Somani expressed his commitment to serving the interests of the people and advancing inclusive development. However, he lamented witnessing stagnation and lack of progress under the current leadership, citing persistent discord, internal conflicts, and incessant power struggles among leaders.

Highlighting his personal integrity, Somani emphasized that he never sought any work contracts from Ministers during Congress governance, nor availed any personal government services or sought work from any MP or MLA fund. He reaffirmed his dedication to the responsibilities entrusted to him by the party.

Somani’s resignation adds to a series of senior leaders’ defections from the Congress party in Assam, citing irreconcilable differences with the party high command.
