Assam: APCC Protests Alleged Illegal Tax Imposition by Income Tax Department
Guwahati, 30th March: Today, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) organized a protest rally at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, condemning what they claim to be the illegal tax imposition by the Income Tax department on the Indian National Congress (INC).
Led by prominent leader Mira Borthakur, along with several other Congress members, the rally aimed to denounce the alleged imposition of taxes on the INC, which the party perceives as a threat to democracy.
The protest in Guwahati is part of a nationwide movement initiated by the Congress party against what they term as an “egregious attack” on democracy and the imposition of “tax terrorism” by the Income Tax department. The Congress alleges that it has received fresh notices demanding over Rs 1,800 crore in taxes.
In response to these allegations, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal has instructed all Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) to organize massive public demonstrations across the country. These protests are scheduled to occur over the weekend, with senior leaders and party functionaries expected to participate.
The Congress’s decision to mobilize nationwide protests highlights its firm stance against what it perceives as unjust targeting by the Income Tax department, particularly amidst the crucial Lok Sabha elections.
