Assam: Anti-Drug Drive Nets Huge Haul in Karimganj and Nagaon
Guwahati, 31st March: Amidst preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Karimganj Sadar police made significant strides in their anti-drug efforts by seizing a substantial consignment of drugs on March 31.
Acting on received intelligence, Karimganj Police conducted a thorough search operation, culminating in the confiscation of 12,750 bottles of Phensedyl from a residence in Hamidpur, Karimganj. The illicit substances were seized, and one drug peddler, identified as Moinuddin, was apprehended in connection with the consignment.
In a separate operation, a team from the Mazbat police station intercepted and seized cannabis valued at Rs 1.4 crores near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The Mazbat police, operating under the Udalguri district in Assam, initiated legal action against the accused involved in the illicit drug trade.
Prior to these operations, Nagaon Police executed a successful anti-narcotics operation resulting in the confiscation of narcotics worth Rs 80 lakhs and the apprehension of two individuals in the Nagaon district. Acting on intelligence regarding potential drug trafficking activities, Nagaon Police intercepted a vehicle, leading to the discovery of the illegal substances.
These concerted efforts underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies in Assam to combat the menace of drug trafficking, particularly during critical periods such as elections, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
