Assam: Bir Lachit Sena Leader Raises Concerns Over Opposition Unity
Guwahati, 31st March: Shrinkhal Chaliha, a prominent leader of the Bir Lachit Sena, voiced deep apprehensions regarding the state of unity within Assam’s opposition parties ahead of the upcoming elections.
Chaliha emphasized the importance of regional parties rallying together beyond traditional party lines, suggesting that unity among local factions holds greater significance than the typical Congress-BJP rivalry.
While acknowledging the need for a strong candidate to challenge the ruling BJP, Chaliha questioned the authenticity of the purportedly united opposition. He coined the term “Chiprang opposition” to signify suspicion and discord within the opposition ranks.
Accusing certain opposition members of undermining prominent figure Gaurav Gogoi, Chaliha warned that this internal strife could undermine Gogoi’s electoral prospects.
Expressing disappointment, Chaliha lamented the lack of a cohesive strategy among opposition leaders, criticizing the tendency for individual leaders to hold separate press conferences instead of presenting a united front against the ruling party.
Highlighting a practical issue, Chaliha pointed out the absence of an election office in Sivasagar, further contributing to his disillusionment with the state of opposition readiness for the upcoming elections.
In a bold accusation, Chaliha raised suspicions about certain opposition leaders potentially collaborating with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, insinuating clandestine efforts to undermine Gaurav Gogoi’s candidacy.
His concerns shed light on the internal divisions and perceived lack of coordination within opposition circles, raising doubts about their ability to mount an effective electoral campaign.
