Lok Sabha Elections 2024: PPA Announces Post-Poll Alliance with BJP in Arunachal Pradesh

Northeast Desk, 7th April: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) disclosed its plan to forge a post-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh under the banner of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). This decision, revealed by PPA Secretary General Kaling Jerang during a press conference in the state capital, aims to solidify political collaboration between the two parties.

Jerang elaborated on recent discussions between PPA and NEDA convener and Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, where consensus was reached on forming a post-poll alliance. Despite fielding candidates against BJP contestants in the Assembly elections due to the absence of PPA MLAs, PPA remains steadfast in its commitment to align with BJP post-election.

“We are unable to share the candidates; hence we have failed to maintain an alliance during the pre-poll. But we will maintain our alliance post-poll,” clarified Jerang, elucidating PPA’s strategic approach. Additionally, PPA announced its decision to support BJP candidates in the parliamentary polls, refraining from nominating its own candidates for the two parliamentary seats in the state.

Jerang emphasized the depth of cooperation, stating that eight PPA candidates from Assembly constituencies under the Arunachal East Parliamentary Constituency and four from those under Arunachal West constituency are poised to extend their support to BJP MP candidates. This move signifies a concerted effort by PPA to bolster BJP’s electoral prospects in Arunachal Pradesh.
