NE Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms as IMD Issues Orange Alert

Guwahati, 7th April: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cautionary Orange alert for the Northeast region, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. This alert comes as air storm activities are anticipated to affect the area significantly. Conversely, in the Northwest, temperatures remain normal or below due to western disturbances.

Residents in the affected states are advised to brace for thunderstorms, lightning, and intense rainfall, with gusty winds expected to reach speeds of 30-40 km per hour. The distinction between alerts is crucial, with an ‘Orange Alert’ signaling the need for preparedness, while a ‘Yellow Alert’ advises vigilant monitoring of updates.

For Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, the IMD initially issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Sunday and Monday. However, following a reassessment, the warning was subsequently withdrawn. This decision reflects the dynamic nature of weather forecasting and the importance of staying informed.

According to the weather report, a cyclonic circulation is currently positioned over Assam at 1.5 km above mean sea level. This atmospheric phenomenon is expected to influence weather patterns in the region, emphasizing the need for ongoing monitoring and preparedness measures.
