Assam Government to Provide Rs 1.5 Lakh Financial Support to Bihu Committees

Guwahati, 8th April: The Assam government has announced plans to extend financial assistance amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh to each Bihu committee in the state, totaling an allocation of Rs 35 crore. This initiative aims to benefit 2,306 Bihu committees across Assam, with disbursement subject to approval from the Election Commission due to the ongoing electoral process.

While this marks a continuation of the government’s support for cultural festivities, the formal announcement has been delayed due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct. Nevertheless, this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to nurturing and preserving Assam’s rich cultural heritage, particularly during the upcoming Bihu festival, the largest celebration in the state.

As preparations for the festival are underway, various Bihu organizing committees have been actively arranging Bihu dance workshops across different regions of Assam, highlighting the vibrant spirit and enthusiasm surrounding the festivities.
