Tripura Police Arrests Six, Seizes Contraband Worth Over Rs 1 Crore in 24-Hour Blitz
Northeast Desk, 9th April: In a swift crackdown, Tripura Police has arrested six individuals and seized contraband valued at over Rs 1 crore in the span of just 24 hours.
In the first operation, acting on confidential information, Tripura Police in Sonamura Sub-division, under Sepahijala district, conducted a raid in the Rangamatia bordering areas. Over 7000 bottles of banned cough syrups were seized from the residence of Tajul Islam, with an estimated value of Rs 50 lakh. However, Imran Hossain, another suspect, managed to evade arrest.
Subsequently, the Khowai Police Station staff dismantled a suspected drug trafficking racket. The initial arrest of Kajal Tanti, found in possession of 50 grams of brown sugar, led to the identification and arrest of three accomplices – Prashanta Das, Litan Gope, and Krishan Debbarma.
In the third operation, Tripura Police in Ambassa, under Dhalai District, arrested one person and seized cannabis worth Rs 1 crore. During a routine inspection, a truck was stopped, and upon thorough search, 14 drums containing packages of ganja were found cleverly concealed beneath other drums filled with latex. The estimated value of the seized contraband exceeds Rs 1 crore 20 lakh. The truck driver was promptly detained.
The series of successful operations underscores Tripura Police’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and ensuring public safety.
