Maharashtra: 5 dead after trying to Rescue Cat from Abandoned Well in Ahmednagar

National Desk, 10th April: In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded late on April 9 in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, five individuals tragically lost their lives while attempting to rescue a cat from an abandoned well. The abandoned well, reportedly utilized as a biogas pit, became the site of the devastating event.

According to reports, the sequence of events began when one person descended into the well with a rope tied to his waist in an effort to rescue the stranded cat. However, despite initial rescue attempts by a team of police, the situation quickly escalated as four more individuals jumped into the well successively in a desperate bid to save the animal.

Senior police officer Dhananjay Jadhav provided insights into the harrowing ordeal, stating, “A rescue team recovered the dead bodies of five of the six people who jumped one after another into the abandoned well.” He further noted that the well had been utilized for storing animal waste, compounding the already perilous circumstances.

The lone survivor was promptly rescued by the police team and swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic loss of lives.
