Conrad Sangma Addresses Border Community, Praises Assam’s CM for Border Dispute Resolution Efforts
Northeast Desk, 12th April: Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, recently engaged with the public of Athiabari along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Sangma commended his Assamese counterpart, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, lauding his practical approach and dedication to resolving the border dispute.
He highlighted Sarma’s efforts, which have resulted in a significant number of villages previously within Assam now merging with Meghalaya.
Despite the complexities involved, Sangma assured the community that negotiations are ongoing and emphasized efforts to accommodate villages wishing to join Meghalaya.
He reiterated his commitment to continuing discussions with the Assam government for maximum resolution.
During an election rally in Athiabari village, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma addressed the pressing issue of villages seeking inclusion with Meghalaya along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Sangma emphasized the initiation of a joint demarcation survey to find a solution. He also praised Assam’s CM, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for his practical approach to the problem and acknowledged the substantial progress made.
Sangma reassured the public of ongoing negotiations and the government’s commitment to accommodating villages seeking merger with Meghalaya.
Additionally, Sangma highlighted the NPP’s determination to contest the Lok Sabha elections vigorously, aiming to secure victory in both the Tura and Shillong constituencies.
