Manipur: Imphal West District Gears Up for Lok Sabha Election with Gun Collection Drive
Northeast Desk, 13th April: With the Lok Sabha Election looming closer, Imphal West district authorities have intensified efforts to ensure public safety by collecting licensed firearms. However, despite ongoing efforts, approximately 40 per cent of licensed guns are yet to be surrendered.
Imphal West Superintendent of Police, Kshetrimayum Shivakanta Singh, emphasized the importance of this initiative during a media briefing. Notices have been issued to individuals who have not yet deposited their licensed firearms at police stations. Additionally, Singh stated that further action, including potential revocation of gun licenses, would be pursued if owners fail to comply after receiving summoning notices.
In preparation for the election, the police department has implemented various confidence-building measures, including foot patrolling, area domination, and combing operations. These efforts aim to ensure a safe and fair electoral process, devoid of any sense of intimidation or fear.
Furthermore, security measures have been bolstered in collaboration with Kangpokpi district administration and Imphal West district police, particularly in adjoining areas of Kangpokpi and Imphal West. These proactive measures underscore the commitment of local authorities to uphold public safety and security during the electoral process.
