BJP Candidate Stresses Unity Amidst Escalating Violence in Manipur

Northeast Desk, 14th April: Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh, the BJP candidate for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, has emphasized the crucial need to preserve Manipur’s unity amidst escalating tensions as the state braces for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Singh underscored the importance of maintaining the integrity of Manipur while highlighting the achievements of his party and the government in serving the people of the state. He pledged to prioritize peacebuilding initiatives and the resettlement of displaced individuals as central pillars of his electoral campaign.

However, against this backdrop of political discourse, fresh violence erupted in Manipur, casting a shadow over the region’s stability. In the lead-up to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit, clashes erupted in Thoubal, Tengnoupal, and Kakching districts, resulting in casualties.

The situation further deteriorated in Moirangpurel, where clashes between village volunteers from Kuki and Meitei-dominated areas intensified. The violence, which persisted past 1 pm on April 13, saw village volunteers from the valley district retaliating against those from Kangpokpi.

According to reliable sources, the violence was instigated by Kuki village guards who launched a barrage of rounds and shell explosives towards Moirangpurel from Kamuching under Maphou Dam PS, Kangpokpi district, at 8:30 am. In response, volunteers from Moirangpurel retaliated, resulting in the tragic loss of two Kuki village guards.

As tensions escalate and violence continues to grip parts of Manipur, the need for unity and concerted efforts towards peace and reconciliation becomes increasingly imperative, especially in the lead-up to the pivotal Lok Sabha elections.
