Sikkim: SDF Spokesperson Shiv Kumar Timsina Arrested for Allegedly Sharing Fake Opinion Poll
Northeast Desk, 18th April: Shiv Kumar Timsina, the spokesperson of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), has been apprehended on charges of circulating a fabricated opinion poll related to the forthcoming Sikkim Assembly elections.
Timsina’s arrest comes amid a series of legal actions against him, as he faces multiple allegations under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Representation of the People Act (RP Act).
The charges pressed against Timsina encompass 120B for criminal conspiracy, 171 for disseminating false information, 188 for disobeying orders issued by a public servant, 505 for causing public mischief, and 126 of the RP Act.
This arrest follows an investigation into the dissemination of misleading information through the alleged opinion poll, which purportedly misled the public and sowed confusion regarding the electoral scenario in Sikkim. Authorities acted promptly upon uncovering the fictitious poll.
