Himachal Pradesh BJP Files Complaint Against Congress for Allegedly Defaming Kangana Ranaut
Natonal Desk, 21st April: The Himachal Pradesh BJP has taken formal action against the Congress and the Hamirpur Youth Congress Club, lodging a complaint accusing them of defaming actor and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut. Filed on Sunday, the complaint alleges that the Congress intentionally portrayed Kangana in a negative light by utilizing images from her films and posting derogatory remarks on social media platforms.
In their complaint submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI), with a copy forwarded to the Himachal chief electoral officer, the BJP asserts that the Congress orchestrated a campaign to tarnish Kangana’s character online. Specifically, the Hamirpur Youth Congress Club is accused of using a picture of Kangana from her “artistic pursuits” to depict her negatively and making derogatory remarks.
Karan Nanda, the BJP state media in-charge, presented the complaint, highlighting repeated instances that they consider serious violations of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860; Representation of People Act (RPA), 1951; and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by Congress leaders. According to the BJP, these actions may also constitute offences under the relevant sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act, 2000, with the remarks potentially falling under the definition of “corrupt practice”.
