Assam: Zubeen Garg makes derogatory remarks against Majuli Satradhikra, sparks controversy at 66th Central Rongali Bihu Sammelan

Guwahati, 23rd April: Majuli found itself embroiled in controversy during the 66th Central Rongali Bihu Sammelan, as renowned artist Zubeen Garg’s behavior stirred heated debate. The incident unfolded after Garg was honored with the title of ‘Sangeet Sindhu’ at the Garhmoor Mini Stadium, organized by the Purvarun Kala Parishad.

During the closing ceremony, the Celebration Committee bestowed the prestigious title of “Sangeet Sindhu” upon Zubeen Garg, also known as the Pride of Assam. However, what followed was unexpected as Garg openly objected to the address of the Majuli Satradhikar as ‘Prabhu Ishwar’ (mighty god), leading to accusations of insulting him.

The controversy escalated as Garg’s comments about the address given to the Satradhikars by their disciples sparked strong reactions across Majuli and the entire state of Assam. Many found his behavior outrageous, resulting in widespread criticism and condemnation within the community.

While Zubeen Garg’s melodious voice has enthralled audiences across Assam, his recent actions have drawn sharp opposition and raised concerns about potential adverse reactions, particularly in Satrabhumi Majuli.
