Northeast Desk, 23rd April: Meghalaya Police have joined forces with Assam Police in a collaborative effort to track down the perpetrators responsible for the assault of minors in South West Garo Hills. A senior police official confirmed the partnership, highlighting the coordination and pursuit of leads with counterparts from Assam.

Bernard N Marak, BJP state vice president, urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to prioritize justice in the wake of the heinous crime committed during the Chenga Benga Mela. Marak emphasized the severity of the incident, calling for swift action to ensure accountability.

Despite no arrests being made thus far, South West Garo Hills Police are intensifying their efforts, bolstered by the support of Assam police, to identify and apprehend the suspects. Superintendent Vikas Yadav expressed confidence in a breakthrough, indicating progress in the investigation.

The assault, which targeted four minors, occurred on April 16 near the Chenga Benga Mela venue. While initial reports hinted at a communal angle, police clarified that the victims were wrongfully confined and subjected to physical and sexual abuse. As the case remains under investigation, authorities are committed to delivering justice while dispelling misinformation circulating on social media platforms.
