Manipur: IED Blasts Rock National Highway-2 Ahead of Phase-2 Lok Sabha Polls

Northeast Desk, 24th April: In a concerning turn of events preceding the phase-2 Lok Sabha polls, three improvised explosive device (IED) blasts shook National Highway-2 last night, resulting in significant damages to the bridge infrastructure and disrupting vehicular movement.

The explosions, which occurred along the highway, startled residents in the vicinity, although fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. However, the force of the blasts left three large craters on the highway, rendering it impassable for vehicles.

Security personnel deployed in the area swiftly responded to the situation, imposing restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles until the damaged section of the road is repaired. The blasts have raised security concerns in the region, prompting heightened vigilance among law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, condemning the incident, a tribal body convened an emergency meeting, inviting stakeholders, village elders, and civil organizations to address the aftermath of the explosions. The meeting aims to assess the situation, discuss preventive measures, and ensure the safety and security of the community amidst escalating tensions.
