Assam Minister Criticizes Sam Pitroda’s Remarks on Inheritance Tax
Guwahati, 24th April: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika has fired back at Sam Pitroda, labeling the latter, a non-resident Indian (NRI), as disconnected from India due to his departure from the country. Hazarika accused Pitroda of accompanying Rahul Gandhi on foreign trips with sparse audiences, where he allegedly criticizes India, suggesting a pattern of undermining the nation’s image. Hazarika attributed this behavior to what he perceives as the Congress party’s mindset.
Pitroda’s earlier remarks on inheritance tax in America sparked controversy, as he highlighted the concept of wealth redistribution through taxation. While Pitroda clarified his statement, emphasizing that he merely cited the US inheritance tax as an example for discussion, Hazarika remained critical, suggesting that such discussions detract from the core issues facing the electorate.
Expressing confidence in the electorate’s sentiments, Hazarika asserted that voters are resolved to re-elect Prime Minister Modi for a third term, citing discontent with the Congress. He predicted a sweeping victory for the BJP, with an expected tally of 400 seats in the elections. Hazarika reiterated his conviction that the BJP candidate would triumph in Nagaon, dismissing Pitroda’s actions as antithetical to the principles of national freedom and portraying him negatively as an NRI with a singular agenda to disparage India abroad alongside Rahul Gandhi.
