Arunachal Achieves High Voter Turnout, CM Praises Citizens’ Commitment to Democracy
Guwahati, 27th April: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu commends the state’s remarkable voting percentage of 77.70 percent in the Lok Sabha general elections and 82.95 percent in the Assembly polls. After re-polling at eight stations across four segments in four districts on April 24, Khandu took to Twitter to applaud the voters’ enthusiasm, stating, “I bow to citizens of Arunachal Pradesh for having displayed exemplary commitment to the democratic ethos of the country by their spirited participation in the recently concluded Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.”
Highlighting the dedication of polling personnel and security forces, Khandu praised their unwavering efforts despite challenging weather conditions and rugged terrains. He noted their diligence in ensuring that all 2,226 polling stations, spanning from the snow-clad Himalayas to the rainforest foothills, were effectively managed, allowing every eligible voter to exercise their franchise.
With approximately 50,000 officials involved in the electoral process, Khandu emphasized their commitment to facilitating voting across the state, regardless of the logistical challenges. He expressed gratitude to the CEO, Arunachal Pradesh, for overseeing the logistics of the simultaneous elections, ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered the re-polling at select stations following reports of violence and booth snatching during the initial polling on April 19. Despite these challenges, Arunachal Pradesh’s electoral process stands as a testament to the resilience and dedication of its citizens and officials in upholding the democratic values of the nation.
