Congress President Kharge Lambasts BJP and PM Modi, Questions Defections and Election Promises
Northeast Desk, 27th April: Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a press conference held in Guwahati on Saturday.
Kharge raised questions about the loyalty and dedication of former Congress leaders who defected to the BJP, questioning their decades-long association with the Congress party. He expressed bewilderment at their criticisms of Congress stalwarts like Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi.
Responding to criticisms of Congress leaders changing constituencies, Kharge pointed out the track record of BJP stalwarts Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani, questioning the BJP’s double standards.
Asserting the resilience of the Congress party, Kharge stated, “Congress is like a flowing river, it is not affected by a few persons leaving it.”
Kharge also criticized PM Modi for failing to fulfill electoral promises and accused the BJP of claiming undue credit for progress. He emphasized the Congress party’s pivotal role in India’s independence and development, contrasting it with what he deemed as the BJP’s attempts to rewrite history.
In response to PM Modi’s reaction to the Supreme Court’s decision on VVPAT verification, Kharge dismissed it as a habitual response from Modi, clarifying that the plea was initiated by advocates and NGOs, not the Congress party.
Kharge’s statements underscored the deep-seated ideological divide between the Congress and the BJP, highlighting contrasting visions for India’s past, present, and future.
