Delhi Congress President Resigns Over Alliance with AAP, Citing Party Concerns
National Desk, 28th April: Arvinder Singh Lovely, Delhi Congress President, has tendered his resignation, citing the party’s decision to ally with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi as the primary reason. In a letter addressed to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely expressed concerns over the alliance and unilateral decisions made by the party leadership.
In his resignation letter, Lovely highlighted the Delhi Congress Unit’s opposition to the alliance with AAP, a party formed on the basis of allegations against the Congress. Despite the unit’s objections, the party proceeded with the alliance, prompting Lovely’s decision to step down.
Lovely outlined several issues leading to his resignation, including the vetoing of senior Delhi Congress leaders’ choices by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary (Delhi In-charge). He also noted dissatisfaction with key appointments being blocked by the AICC General Secretary.
Expressing discontent with the alliance, Lovely emphasized AAP’s history of accusations against the Congress over corruption and the incarceration of half of AAP’s cabinet ministers on corruption charges. He also highlighted challenges within the alliance, such as the allocation of parliamentary seats and statements made by AAP candidate Kanhaiya Kumar praising the party’s achievements.
Lovely’s resignation underscores internal divisions within the Delhi Congress regarding the alliance with AAP, reflecting concerns about compromising party values for electoral gains.
