Assam: Key Leaders of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Join United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL)

Guwahati, 30th April: In a significant political development, several prominent leaders of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), including Abdul Kader, the secretary for the Salbari district, made a pivotal decision to join the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on April 30.

This strategic move comes amidst reports of considerable erosion within the BPF’s ranks, particularly in the Salbari district, ahead of the upcoming third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The decision to switch allegiance was formalized on April 30, with Abdul Kader and numerous other BPF workers officially becoming members of the UPPL. The event was attended by Chandan Brahma, adding significance to the transition.

Abdul Kader, in his remarks to the media, expressed admiration for Hagrama Mohilary’s leadership but raised concerns about certain elements within the BPF, citing their failure to accommodate all members within the party.

The move saw the migration of 23 BPF workers to the UPPL, indicating a significant shift in political allegiance. Moreover, Kader hinted at the potential for further support, suggesting that approximately 1,000 more BPF workers could join the UPPL in the near future.

With confidence, Abdul Kader predicted the victory of alliance candidate Jayanta Basumatary in the Kokrajhar constituency during the upcoming elections, underscoring a strong belief in the prospects of their new political alignment.
