Assam: Residents of Garhmara Kadamtala Resolve to Boycott Elections Over Infrastructure Woes

Guwahati, 1st May: In a bold and decisive move, residents of Garhmara Kadamtala, near Barma in Buxar, have announced their intention to boycott the upcoming elections, citing dissatisfaction with the prevailing infrastructure conditions in the area. The decision, conveyed through prominently displayed banners in the village, underscores the residents’ frustration with the lack of road construction projects in the region.

Nestled in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the village has taken a unified stance against participating in the third phase of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency elections scheduled for May 7. A banner, strategically hung from a tree, features slogans like “No Vote No Road,” succinctly articulating the villagers’ demands.

The primary grievance driving the boycott decision is the prolonged neglect of road infrastructure development, which has severely impeded villagers’ mobility and access to essential services. This frustration has culminated in disillusionment with local authorities, particularly BTR chairman Katiram Boro and EM Rakesh Brahma, whom the villagers hold accountable for the infrastructure woes.

The banner serves as a symbolic representation of the community’s aspirations for development and progress, embodying their steadfast resolve to demand accountability from elected representatives. It reflects their determination to advocate for their rights and push for immediate action to address their grievances.

The decision to boycott the elections underscores the depth of the villagers’ discontent and their commitment to effecting change through collective action. As the election date approaches, the impact of this boycott on the electoral landscape of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency remains to be seen, highlighting the potential ramifications of grassroots activism on the political process.
