Congress President Kharge Criticizes PM Modi Over Manipur Violence Anniversary
National Desk, 3rd May: In a pointed rebuke directed at the BJP-led government at the Centre, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 3 for what he termed as “apathy” and “remorselessness” in addressing the year-long violence plaguing Manipur.
On the solemn occasion marking one year since Manipur plunged into turmoil on May 3, 2023, Kharge took to X (formerly Twitter) to castigate the Modi administration’s handling of the crisis. He lamented the loss of humanity in Manipur, attributing it to a “cruel combination of an apathetic Modi Govt and an inept BJP State Govt” that effectively divided the state.
Kharge underscored Prime Minister Modi’s conspicuous absence from the troubled border state, accusing him of indifference and incompetence. He criticized Modi for damaging Manipur’s social fabric with his ego and accused the BJP of prioritizing development rhetoric over addressing humanitarian concerns.
Pointing to the grim statistics of lives lost, displacement, and dire conditions in camps, Kharge decried the lack of sympathy from the Modi government towards the plight of Manipur’s residents.
Kharge highlighted instances of violence, including rape and clashes between communities, and chastised Modi for his delayed response, which he deemed insincere and hollow.
Further condemning the erosion of governance and law and order in Manipur, Kharge paid tribute to the innocent lives lost and called for urgent action to restore peace to the region, attributing the ongoing turmoil to the BJP’s failure to govern effectively.
