Temporary Closure of Sikkim’s NH10 for Road Maintenance Work
Northeast Desk, 3rd May: Sikkim’s vital artery, National Highway 10 (NH10), is slated for complete closure from 6th May to 9th May. The closure is imperative for conducting bituminous work spanning from Rabi Jhora to Gail Khola along NH 10, covering a stretch of approximately 28.80 km to 26.40 km.
The decision to enforce temporary restrictions and reroute traffic follows a request from the Executive Engineer 11 of the National Highway, Division IX, P.W (Roads). The bituminous work is pivotal for upkeeping the road’s infrastructure and ensuring safe passage for commuters.
District Magistrate of Kalimpong, Sri Balasubramanian T., IAS, issued the directive in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The order mandates the temporary restriction and diversion of all vehicle types from Rabi Jhora to 29th Mile on NH 10, effective from 06:00 hrs, 06/05/2024, until 06:00 hrs, 09/05/2024.
During this period, movement of all vehicle types from Rabi Jhora to 29th Mile via NH 10 is prohibited. However, alternative routes have been designated for various vehicle categories.
Small vehicles are permitted to travel round the clock from Rangpoo towards Siliguri via Munsong 17 Mile Algarah – Lava- Gorubathan and vice versa. They can also navigate from Chitrey Kalimpong town Algarah-Lava Gorubathan to Siliguri and vice versa without time restrictions.
On the contrary, goods vehicles are authorized to ply from Chitrey Kalimpong town Algarah Lava Gorubathan to Siliguri and vice versa from 21:00 hrs to 06:00 hrs.
Both goods vehicles and small vehicles are allowed to traverse from Reshi Pedong Algarah Lava Gorubathan to Siliguri and vice versa round the clock.
To facilitate smooth traffic flow during the closure, traffic authorities will impose necessary restrictions at the Rangpoo Check post, Chitrey, and the district border – NH-10 stretch to oversee route diversions effectively.
This temporary closure and traffic rerouting endeavor to facilitate essential road maintenance work and uphold the safety of commuters traversing NH10 in Sikkim.
