Assam: Properties Worth over Rs 20 Lakhs Gutted in Massive Fire in Goalpara
Guwahati, 4th May: In a devastating incident late last night on May 3, a major blaze erupted in Goalpara, resulting in the destruction of seven shops. The inferno, which originated in the area of Chandariya in Barpahar within Goalpara town, caused extensive damage estimated at over Rs 20 lakh.
The fire, suspected to have started from a rickshaw parked near a shop in Barpahar, quickly spread, engulfing multiple establishments in its path.
Eyewitnesses reported billowing black smoke followed swiftly by the ignition of flames, prompting immediate but unsuccessful attempts by bystanders to extinguish the fire. The assistance of the fire brigade was eventually sought, leading to the containment of the blaze. However, by the time the flames were brought under control, seven shops had already fallen victim to the fire’s rampage.
Residents in the vicinity lamented the substantial monetary loss, estimated to exceed Rs 20 lakh. This unfortunate incident underscores the pressing need for heightened vigilance and effective fire prevention measures within communities to mitigate such devastating consequences.
