Northeast Desk, 6th May: Tragedy struck Yangdong village in Kakching district as one man lost his life and another sustained injuries in separate incidents of lightning strikes during yesterday’s thunderstorm.
The deceased, identified as Huidrom Nilakanta (45) son of late H Temba from Yangdong Awang Leikai, was fatally struck by lightning while working on a farm with his wife Romila (40). While Nilakanta tragically succumbed to the lightning strike, his wife narrowly escaped with injuries.
Additionally, Nilakanta’s residence bore the brunt of the storm, suffering extensive damage with a portion of the house blown away by the force of the winds.
In a separate incident, Lourembam Basant Singh (53) son of late L Temba Singh of Lourembam Maning Leikai, Nambol, sustained injuries from a lightning strike while working in a paddy field around 4 pm today. Singh is currently receiving treatment at Asian Hospital, Kwakeithel.
The incidents serve as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by thunderstorms and lightning strikes, highlighting the need for precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions.
