Voters in Assam’s Dhubri Brave Brahmaputra, Use Boats to Reach Polling Booths
Guwahati, 7th May: As the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 unfolded across 12 states and union territories, voters in the riverine areas of Assam’s Dhubri exhibited determination by utilizing boats to cross the Brahmaputra river and reach their respective polling booths to cast their votes.
Social media platforms were abuzz with visuals capturing the massive turnout of voters embarking on boat rides to participate in the electoral process, showcasing the resilience and commitment of the electorate.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the electoral process, additional security personnel were deployed in the region, bolstering efforts to maintain law and order and facilitate unhindered voting.
The conclusion of the third phase of polling in Assam marks a significant milestone, encompassing all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies within the state. With the preceding two phases covering 10 constituencies, the electoral landscape is primed for a decisive showdown.
Of particular interest in this phase is the electoral contest in Guwahati, where prominent candidates from Congress and BJP, namely Mira Borthakur and Bijuli Kalita Medhi, respectively, are engaged in a competitive battle. Guwahati constituency, comprising five assembly constituencies, is poised for a closely contested electoral duel.
Within the electoral framework, Kamrup Metropolitan emerges as a pivotal constituency with a substantial electorate of 10,55,684 eligible voters, representing a diverse demographic profile. The constituency showcases a significant influx of new voters in the 18 to 19 age group, indicating a burgeoning youth participation in the democratic process. Additionally, the presence of elderly voters aged over 85 years and service voters further enriches the electoral fabric, highlighting the diverse composition of the voting populace.
