Guwahati, 7th May: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bijuli Kalita Medhi exercised her franchise at Pub Guwahati High School, Jyoti Nagar, Bamunimaidan, Guwahati, Assam, on May 7, marking a significant moment in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Contesting against Congress candidate Mira Borthakur, Bijuli Kalita Medhi arrived at the polling booth accompanied by her husband and son, who cast his vote for the first time. While addressing to media, Medhi urged voters to turn out in large numbers despite the rain, expressing confidence in the unwavering spirit of Guwahatians. She expressed optimism about her prospects in the election, citing the overwhelming support extended to the BJP government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma by the voters in the region.

At 45 years old, Bijuli Kalita Medhi emerges as a prominent figure in BJP’s electoral ambitions in Assam, contesting from the Gauhati constituency. With a clean record and no cases against her, Medhi’s political profile is bolstered by her post-graduate education. Financial disclosures reveal her assets totaling Rs 1.6 Crore, with a significant portion in movable assets and immovable assets, without any liabilities. Professionally, she is entrenched in the business sector, specializing in handloom and handicraft items.

The BJP’s decision to nominate Bijuli Kalita Medhi signifies a strategic shift, replacing the incumbent MP, Queen Oja, and reflecting the party’s recalibration of its electoral strategy in the region.
