Assam: Polling Agent Falls Unconscious, Halts Voting at Bongaigaon Polling Booth

Guwahati, 7th May: A troubling incident unfolded at the Mohanpur Nayapara Primary School No 171 polling booth in Jogighopa, Bongaigaon, Assam, during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on May 7, as a polling agent fell unconscious while on duty.

The unforeseen medical emergency forced a temporary halt in polling activities at the center for approximately 30 minutes. Prompt medical assistance was summoned, and the affected polling agent, identified as Das, was swiftly transported to the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Concurrently, Assam recorded a 27.34 percent voter turnout in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections across four constituencies until 11:30 am. Notably, Kokrajhar exhibited the highest polling percentage at 28.28 percent, closely followed by Dhubri at 27.77 percent. Barpeta secured the third position with 27.19 percent, while Guwahati recorded a slightly lower turnout at 26.25 percent. Despite this medical setback, the democratic process in Assam continues, with authorities striving to ensure the smooth conduct of elections amidst unforeseen challenges.
