Tripura Government Ensures Ample Supply of Essential Commodities Amidst Transportation Challenges
Northeast Desk, 10th May: The Tripura government has reassured the public regarding the availability of food and various daily necessities, emphasizing the importation of essential commodities through national highways. A report from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs stated that there is no need to worry about shortages, while urging adherence to the temporary rationing system for petrol and diesel sales.
While acknowledging a slightly lower stock of petrol and diesel in various divisions, including the IOCL depot at Dharmanagar under North District, efforts are underway to normalize supplies swiftly. Challenges arising from heavy rains in the Jatinga-Lampur area of the Lamding-Badarpur section of the North East Frontier Railway have prompted the transportation of necessities, including petroleum products, via road from neighboring regions.
The railway authority is actively involved in repairing the affected railway line, with a trial run conducted recently encountering another issue. However, authorities are diligently working to rectify the situation, anticipating the resumption of freight services shortly. Meanwhile, IOCL authorities have been consistently importing petrol and diesel into the state via road tankers from depots in Assam since the suspension of rail transport. Transportation of foodstuffs, petrol, and diesel via road will continue until railway services are reinstated in the coming days.
