Manipur Police Apprehends PREPAK (Progressive) Cadre, Seizes Arms Cache
Northeast Desk, 11th May: Manipur Police have made significant strides in combating insurgent activities, with the recent apprehension of an active cadre belonging to the proscribed outfit PREPAK (Progressive) in Imphal East District. The individual, identified as Huidrom Mishal Singh, aged 24, was captured during a coordinated operation by law enforcement authorities.
Upon his arrest, Mishal Singh was found in possession of a cache of illicit items, including 1 Pistol, 4 live rounds, a magazine, a 4-wheeler vehicle, and a mobile phone. His affiliation with the banned outfit underscores the persistent challenges faced by authorities in curbing insurgent activities and illegal arms trafficking.
Mishal Singh is currently in police custody, with ongoing investigations aimed at unraveling his activities and potential connections within the insurgent network.
In a separate incident, security forces apprehended an active member of the MNRF outfit, identified as K. Gaijailung, aged 41, from Langol, Imphal West District. Recovered items from his possession included 2 mobile handsets and a 4-wheeler vehicle. Gaijailung was involved in extortion from construction companies in Noney.
Furthermore, Manipur police have intensified their efforts in fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, resulting in significant seizures of illegal arms and ammunition. In one such operation in Kamu Ching, Imphal East District, security forces discovered and seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including 2 country-made 40 mm guns, 21 Pompi mortar bombs, cortex wire, dynamite gun powder, Pompi ammunition round cap holders, empty cases, and a battery cell.
The confiscated arms and ammunition are vital pieces of evidence in the ongoing investigation into illegal arms networks operating in the region, underscoring law enforcement’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Manipur.
