Assam CM Criticizes Kejriwal for Accepting Interim Bail, Calls it “Lack of Self-Respect”
Northeast Desk, 11th May: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lambasted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for accepting interim bail granted by the Supreme Court, asserting that Kejriwal’s decision reflects a “lack of self-respect.” Sarma’s remarks came during a poll rally in Bihar’s Begusarai, where he expressed strong disapproval of Kejriwal’s acceptance of bail.
“Any person with a shred of self-respect would not have availed such bail. He should have declined the bail offered by the Supreme Court, but Kejriwal has no shame left,” remarked CM Sarma while addressing reporters.
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal, who was released on interim bail, visited the Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place in Delhi the following day. Kejriwal’s release comes after over 50 days of incarceration in Tihar Jail, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an excise policy case on March 21. His bail is valid until June 1, after which he is required to surrender to authorities on June 2.
While permitted to engage in election campaigning, Kejriwal is prohibited from attending his office as Chief Minister during the interim period. His wife, Sunita Kejriwal, hailed the bail as a victory for democracy. Opposition parties across the country, including those in the INDIA bloc, have welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision.
