Assam: Dr. Hiren Gohain to Receive Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award for 2024
Guwahati, 13th May: Eminent scholar, writer, literary critic, and social scientist from Assam, Dr. Hiren Gohain, has been named as the recipient of the prestigious Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award for 2024.
Dr. Gohain’s academic journey began at Cotton College for his undergraduate studies, followed by a stint at Presidency College in Calcutta, where he completed his graduation. He then pursued post-graduation in English literature at Delhi University and worked as a lecturer at Kirori Mal College in Delhi University.
Subsequently, Dr. Gohain embarked on doctoral research at Cambridge University, focusing on the topic ‘Paradise Lost and the 17th Century Crisis’. His research culminated in the publication of ‘Tradition and Paradise Lost: A Heretical View’, which received widespread acclaim for its innovative approach. Upon his return from Cambridge, Dr. Gohain assumed a professorship at the Department of English at Gauhati University.
The Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award, instituted in memory of the fearless journalist Parag Kumar Das, who sacrificed his life in the pursuit of truth, aims to recognize and encourage journalists who demonstrate unwavering commitment to uncovering and disseminating truth to the public domain.
