Assam: Residents Protest Neglect of Road Connectivity in Hailakandi, Demand Action from AIUDF MLA

Guwahati, 14th May: Residents in Algapur, Hailakandi, took to the streets on May 14 to protest against AIUDF MLA Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, accusing him of neglecting development and failing to address road connectivity issues in char areas.

The protests were sparked by the longstanding neglect of the Chandipur char, a critical thoroughfare that has fallen into disrepair, severely impacting the daily lives of residents. Locals gathered to voice their grievances, demanding urgent repairs to the Chandipur char. Protesters blocked roads and ignited effigies, expressing their discontent with the perceived inaction of their elected representative.

The unrest reverberated along the Chandipur – Saraspur Bhaya Bashbari Trolley Road, affecting communities spanning Bashbari, First Block, Second Block, Chandipur Grant, Islampur, and beyond.

Residents criticized MLA Nizam Uddin Chowdhury for his failure to address the pressing need for infrastructure improvements, despite repeated appeals from constituents. They lamented that previous requests for road repairs had yielded no tangible results, exacerbating their frustration and prompting the public demonstration.

The protesters issued a stern ultimatum, stating that unless immediate action is taken to initiate repairs on the Chandipur Saraspur trolley road, MLA Nizam Uddin Chowdhury would face vehement opposition in the upcoming elections, with residents vowing to deny him entry into their communities.
