Assam: Major Cybercrime Crackdown Leads to 12 Arrests and Seizure of Incriminating Documents

Guwahati, 15th May: In a significant operation against cybercrime, law enforcement authorities initiated coordinated raids in the areas of Laharighat, Bhuragaon, Moirabari, and Guwahati starting from 1 AM today. As a result of these raids, 12 individuals suspected of involvement in cybercrime activities have been detained. Additionally, a substantial amount of incriminating documents, including SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and other related materials, have been seized.

The operation was spearheaded by Additional Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya from the Crime Investigation Wing of Morigaon Police, who oversaw 16 special police teams deployed across the targeted locations. This concerted effort forms part of a broader initiative aimed at combating cybercrime in the region, which has witnessed over 200 arrests since 2023.

The confiscated documents are expected to serve as crucial evidence in dismantling the networks of cybercriminals operating in the area. Currently, the police are engaged in interrogating the detained suspects to extract further information and pursue additional leads in their ongoing investigations.

Praising the dedication and efficiency of the police teams involved, Additional Superintendent Baishya underscored the significance of such operations in upholding cybersecurity and safeguarding the public against digital fraud.
