Nagaland: Immediate Closure of Nightclubs and Pubs Ordered by UT of NSCN-IM
Northeast Desk, 15th May: The Secretary of the UT of NSCN-IM has issued a directive for the immediate closure of all nightclubs, pubs, and discos within the UT jurisdiction. This decision comes in response to numerous complaints from the general public and various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) regarding the late-night operations of these establishments, which often extend into the early morning hours.
In a press release, the UT Secretary cited concerns over the presence of underage girls at these venues, allegedly involved in immoral activities with married men and non-local businessmen in exchange for money. The UT authorities expressed deep concern over the rising drug use among young Naga youths, attributing it to the easy availability of these substances. To combat this menace, the NSCN/GPRN, UT officials have pledged to take stringent action against anyone found involved in the sale or distribution of banned substances/drugs.
Additionally, the UT Office cautioned its staff to inform/consult its Office regarding any work within UT jurisdiction. The Secretary emphasized that any staff member found involved in untoward incidents within the UT jurisdiction would face strict disciplinary action from the concerned office. This comprehensive approach underscores the UT’s commitment to maintaining law and order and preserving the moral integrity of its community.
