Assam: Conference on ‘India’s Progressive Path in the Administration of Criminal Justice System’
Guwahati, 17th May: The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with the Government of Assam, is organizing a significant conference titled ‘India’s Progressive Path in the Administration of Criminal Justice System’ at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Auditorium, IIT Guwahati, Namati Jalah, Guwahati on 18th-19th May 2024. This conference aims to generate awareness and understanding of three newly enacted laws that replace archaic colonial criminal legislations.
1. *Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023*: Replaces the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
2. *Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023*: Replaces the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
3. *Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023*: Replaces the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
These laws will come into effect on 1st July 2024 and aim to modernize India’s criminal justice system, making it more citizen-centric and suitable for a vibrant democracy.
