Meghalaya: Concerns Raised Over Safety of Bridge in East Jaintia Hills District

Northeast Desk, 17th May: The Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in East Jaintia Hills District have voiced serious concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of a bridge situated at Pyrtakuna village under Lumshnong C&RD Block. Reports have indicated visible signs of damage, including protruding iron rods in certain sections, posing a significant hazard to commuters.

Given the critical role of this bridge in facilitating transportation along NH-6, the Project Director of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Meghalaya, headquartered in Shillong, has been promptly instructed to undertake immediate restorative measures. The urgency of this directive underscores the imperative of ensuring the safety of all individuals relying on this crucial infrastructure.

In light of these safety concerns, the public, commuters, and vehicles are urged to exercise utmost caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations while traversing the bridge.
