Northeast Desk, 19th May: Under the guidance of Tashi Chophel, Deputy Commissioner of Pakyong, a comprehensive inspection and stocking of flood-affected areas were undertaken in Rangpo Sub Division. The initiative aimed to assess the situation and coordinate restoration efforts among various departments.
Present during the inspection were officials from multiple departments including ADC Pakyong, SDM Rangpo, SDPO Rangpo, DFO (T), DPO Pakyong, BDO Duga, MEO Rangpo, and representatives from departments such as Water Resource, PHE, Power, Forest & Environment, and UDD.
The program commenced with a briefing session led by the District Collector at the Tourism Information Centre hall, where the current situation was evaluated in collaboration with line departments.
The inspection commenced from Chantar Rangpo, focusing on the drain along the alternative route above Sikkim Distilleries and debris collection on the road. Immediate restoration directives were issued to PWD, including clearing water channels and constructing an RCC band wall at the road entrance.
DC Pakyong directed BRO to promptly address issues observed along dilapidated drains above EPCS Church Rangpo. At the IBM area and Goli Ground Rangpo, water accumulation issues were noted, prompting instructions to RNP Rangpo for preventive measures.
Extensive inspection around Lower IBM revealed obstructed drains, necessitating immediate restoration actions from UDD and RNP. Similarly, clogged drains along the highway towards Singtam prompted directives to NHIDCL for clearance.
Concerns were raised regarding the approach road and drains below Singtam Hospital, with NHIDCL instructed for prompt restoration.
Additionally, representatives briefed DC and the public about proposed mitigation projects and restoration measures awaiting approval from higher authorities, emphasizing collaborative efforts in addressing flood-related challenges.
