Assam: Wild Elephants Cause Panic and Destruction in Parbatjhora
Guwahati, 21st May: Villagers in Parbatjhora are gripped by fear as a herd of wild elephants wreaks havoc in Chataguri village, under the Bagribari police station. The elephants have rampaged through four or five houses, causing extensive damage and consuming stored rice, leaving destruction in their wake.
The elephants, driven by hunger, ventured out of the forest and into the village, creating a chaotic scene as villagers fled their homes. In a desperate attempt to ward off the elephants, residents set fires along the roadside, but the elephants continued their rampage.
Forest department officials and police arrived at the scene approximately two hours after being alerted to the incident. Their efforts are now focused on driving the elephants back into the forest and restoring calm in the village.
According to local reports, an elephant initially appeared in the area earlier in the evening. Villagers offered rice and other food to the elephant, which it consumed. However, after eating, the elephant began damaging houses, causing widespread panic. The elephant remains in the vicinity, prompting villagers to continue attempting to avoid its path.
