Assam: Laborer Injured in Fall from Under-Construction Flyover in Kaliabor

Guwahati, 21st May: A harrowing incident unfolded on the newly constructed flyover in Kaliabor, as laborers fell from the under-construction structure, sustaining serious injuries.

Tafiur Rahman, a laborer hailing from Dhubri, bore the brunt of the fall, suffering critical injuries. Urgently rushed to the Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital in Kaliabor, Rahman’s condition necessitated further treatment, prompting his referral to the TMCH in Tezpur.

The flyover, erected by Simplex Companies, has drawn criticism for purportedly lacking essential safety measures for its labor force. Concerned locals pointed to the absence of helmets and safety belts, expressing dismay over the sluggish pace of construction on the bridge.

In the wake of the unfortunate incident, residents urged Simplex Company to prioritize the safety of its workers and ensure adequate medical support for Rahman and his family.

The prolonged construction of the flyover, which commenced in 2008, continues to inconvenience commuters in upper-namni-north Assam due to persistent delays.

Voicing shock and concern, local residents issued a statement urging Simplex Company to expedite the construction process, emphasizing the paramount importance of enhanced safety measures to avert future accidents and safeguard the well-being of the community.
