Guwahati, 23rd May: Bongaigaon district in Assam finds itself at the heart of a controversy as several diagnostic centers are accused of unlawfully providing medical services. Allegations have surfaced that post graduate residents, who are explicitly prohibited from private practice by government directives, are performing sonography services at local centers, notably the Devadaru Diagnostic Centre in Abhayapuri.
One prominent case involves Anupriti Sinha, a post graduate resident at Bongaigaon Civil Hospital. Sinha is accused of offering sonography services at Devadaru Diagnostic Centre, charging patients Rs 1,200 per procedure. This practice directly contravenes government orders that bar post graduate residents from engaging in private medical practice.
Victims of this malpractice have raised their voices, accusing these diagnostic centers of exploiting patients for higher profits under the pretense of providing medical care. They claim that these centers have proliferated unchecked, sprouting up like mushrooms after a rainstorm, and are deceiving the public with illegal medical services.
The accusations highlight a critical need for regulatory oversight and enforcement to ensure that medical services adhere to legal and ethical standards, protecting patients from exploitation and ensuring quality care. As the controversy unfolds, authorities are urged to investigate and take appropriate actions against those violating medical practice regulations.
