Sikkim: Alpine Sporting Club Wins SICA Women’s Club Tournament 2024
Northeast Desk, 29th May: The Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) successfully concluded the third edition of the SICA Women’s Club Tournament 2024 on May 28, with Alpine Sporting Club clinching their first championship title in a thrilling final against Aakraman Sporting Club.
The final match marked a significant achievement for Alpine Sporting Club, as they secured their inaugural championship win. Aakraman Sporting Club, demonstrating consistent performance, reached the finals for the third consecutive year but fell short of victory.
The tournament, which commenced on April 9, saw an impressive increase in participation, with 13 teams competing, up from 8 in previous editions. Over 200 talented women cricketers showcased their skills and enthusiasm throughout the event, contributing to its resounding success. SICA expressed satisfaction with the smooth organization and the high level of competition.
Individual accolades were awarded to outstanding players, highlighting exceptional performances. Samayita Roy Prodhan was named Player of the Final, Highest Run Scorer, and Player of the Tournament, while Rebika Chettri emerged as the Highest Wicket Taker.
The closing ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Chief Guest Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC), SICA President, and Executive Members, who commended the players and organizers for their dedication and efforts in promoting women’s cricket in Sikkim.
